New Upgrade or Reinstall Login

This topic applies to you if you have reinstalled the software, or have downloaded and installed an upgrade to your current installation.

Note: If you are running any sort of firewall or antivirus software on your computer, read this.

Reinstalling the Software

If you have reinstalled MemberTies, you should be able to simply login to your database using whatever user name and password you were using before.  If your previous installation was older than the version you are installing, you may be prompted to upgrade the database when you try to login. See below.

Upgrading the Database

If you have installed a new upgrade to the software, it is quite likely that the database itself will need to be upgraded to a new version to support new features in the software. If this is the case, you will receive a message prompting you to allow the database to be modified. Choose Yes when prompted to do this and just follow the instructions.

Note: The upgrade process will prompt you to make a backup of your existing database. You should always do this unless you're certain you already have a backup copy. It is always safest to make a backup of your database before allowing any database upgrade to run. There should not be any danger to your data, but unexpected things can happen. For example, you could lose power in the middle of the upgrade and be left with a corrupted database, the cat could jump up on the keyboard and hit the ESC key, or there could be an undetected problem with the upgrade that will generate an error.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Tip

It is always a good idea to read any upgrade notes that come with the new version. These are always displayed during the installation, and are saved as a text file in the program directory for future reference. The file names are similar to "mtp300.txt" (for MemberTies Professional version 3.00) or "mt600.txt" (for MemberTies standard version 6.00).
