If you have a single-file database (i.e., mtie.db) from an old version of MemberTies (i.e., Pro version prior to 3.x, or Std version prior to 6.x), it must be converted to the new database format before it can be used.
Normally the conversion happens when you first choose the database from the existing list in the Database dropdown on the Login window; but, there are times when the database is not listed there. For example:
| • | If you installed MemberTies on a computer for the first time, and never had a previous installation, but were given an old database to use. |
| • | If you installed MemberTies to a different location than the current install, meaning the system won't find any existing database in its current directory. |
| • | If you need to restore a backup copy from an old version. |
Converting an Old Database
| 1 | On the Login window, open the Database dropdown list and choose "(Specify New)". |
| 2 | When the Database Profile window opens, enter a short name for the database (this is the name that will appear in the Database dropdown on the Login window after it has been converted, so an abbreviated name of your organization works best). |
| 4 | On the Find Database window, select the option labelled, "Search for a Database File from a Previous Version," then click the Search button. |
| 5 | On the Choose Database File window, navigate to the existing ".db" database file you want to convert, then click Save. |
If you receive a warning message that the database already exists, STOP. You are about to wipe out an existing database by the same name. Only proceed if you really want to replace all data in the database.
| 6 | When the Database Upgrade window opens, click Start to begin the conversion process. Follow any instructions that appear during the upgrade process. |
| 7 | When the process is finished, a message indicating the success or failure will be displayed. Assuming the conversion succeeds, you will return to the Database Profile window, where you can enter your existing license information, if applicable. When you are finished, click OK to return to the Login window. |
| 8 | On the Login window, the newly converted database should be available in the Database dropdown. |
