Creating a New Database |
|
When MemberTies is initially installed there are no databases available, which is why you were prompted to create a new database when you first started the program. If you would like to create another database you can do so at any time.
Note: Only the administrator user (mtadmin) can create new databases.
Creating a New Database
| 1 | Login to MemberTies as the user "mtadmin". |
| 2 | Choose Tools > Server Tools > Create New Database. |

| 3 | Enter a name for the database, then click OK. |
If you receive a warning message that the database already exists, STOP. You are about to wipe out an existing database. Only proceed if you really want to destroy all data in the database. See Resetting a Database for more details.
Note: You can uses spaces in the name if you wish, i.e., "Ski Club", but the actual name of the database folder will replace the spaces with underscore characters. So if the name you choose is "Ski Club", the folder name for the database will be "ski_club". Do not use any special characters in the name, such as punctuation or quotation marks. i.e., "John's Database" would be illegal.
| 4 | You will receive two message about database users: |

This message is just letting you know that the master user, "mtadmin" will automatically be able to connect to your new database. The password for this account is "password" by default, but you can change it. If you've already created a database and have change the mtadmin account password, this message is just letting you know that the password will remain however you set it.

When this message appears, click OK to create a username and password for yourself to use for the new database. Note that if you click Cancel, the mtadmin user will be the only user allowed to login. It's always best to create an account for yourself.
| 5 | If you clicked OK to create a new user, the Create User window will open. Enter the new name and password information, then click OK. |

| 6 | When the database has been created, the system will show you a report containing details about the new database, such as the database name, and the user/password(s) you just created. It is a good idea to let the system print this report for future reference. |
| 7 | When the process is finished, a message indicating the success or failure of the database creation process will be displayed. |
