Exporting or Importing Criteria

Any report criteria, as well as criteria created on the activity, group, or membership list search tab using the Advanced Search option can be exported to a file. This can be helpful if you need to create criteria for another non-networked user, or if you need to send confusing criteria settings to the Support group for analysis or help.

Criteria is saved to a special ".mtx" (meaning "MemberTies export") file. These files can be used to import the criteria later, as long as no criteria already exists by the same name (unless you want to overwrite it).

Note: Do not attempt to modify the exported file using any kind of word processor or text editor.  It contains some fairly complex data structures, and altering the file may render it unusable.

Exporting Criteria to a File

Before criteria can be exported, it must first be saved.  If you haven't saved the criteria settings yet, see Saving Criteria for details.

1On the Activity, Group, or Membership List, go to the Search tab, choose Advanced Criteria if necessary, and click the Load icon,

 or...

On the Report Settings window, right-click the criteria list and click the Load icon

2On the Saved Search Criteria window, use the right mouse button to click the saved criteria you want to export, then choose "Export to File..." from the popup menu.
3Click OK when prompted to confirm the export.
4When the "Save Criteria As" window opens, enter the name of the export file you want to create, then click Save.

Importing Criteria

Saved criteria can only be imported to the same software version that was used to export it.  That means if you export a file using MemberTies version 6.0, you cannot import it to version 6.1. This prevents potential conflicts that could arise due to database or programming changes.

In addition, you can only import criteria to the same place. In other words, criteria exported from the Membership List cannot be imported to the Group List, or to Reports.  Criteria is specific to the area of the program where it was created.

1On the Activity, Group, or Membership List, go to the Search tab, choose Advanced Criteria if necessary, and click the Load icon,

 or...

On the Report Settings window, right-click the criteria list and click the Load icon

2On the Saved Search Criteria window, use the right mouse button to click anywhere in the list, then choose "Import from File..." from the popup menu.

Note: It does not matter whether you click on a row or not, just click anywhere in the list.

3Click OK when prompted to confirm the import.
4When the "Select Import File" window opens, enter the name of the previously exported file you want to import, then click Open.
5A message will be displayed for you to confirm the criteria being imported. If you want to continue, click OK.
6If the criteria being imported already exists, you will be prompted to overwrite the existing data.
7If the import is successful, the new criteria will appear in the list and will be immediately ready for use.
