Exporting or Importing User Defined Reports and Views

Professional Version Only

Any user defined report, card, label, view, etc., can be exported to a file and then imported by another user.

Exported reports/views are saved to a special ".mtx" (meaning "MemberTies export") file. These files can be used to import the report later, as long as no report or view already exists by the same name (unless you want to overwrite it).

Note: Do not attempt to modify the exported file using any kind of word processor or text editor.  It contains some fairly complex data structures, and altering the file may render it unusable.

Exporting a User Defined Report or View to a File

1For reports, choose File > Workspace > Reports, then choose Actions > User Reports,

 or...

For views, choose File > Workspace > Membership List or Group List, then choose Actions > Views.

2When the list of views or reports appears, use the right mouse button to click the one you want to export, then choose "Export to File..." from the popup menu.
3Click OK when prompted to confirm the export.
4When the "Save As" window opens, enter the name of the export file you want to create, then click Save. (It is a good idea to name the file similar to the report or view, so you can tell what it is later.)

Importing User Defined Reports or Views

Exported reports and views can only be imported to the same software version that was used to export it.  That means if you export a file using MemberTies version 6.0, you cannot import it to version 6.1. This prevents potential conflicts that could arise due to database or programming changes.

1Choose File > Workspace > Reports, then choose Actions > User Reports,

 or...

Choose File > Workspace > Membership List or Group List, then choose Actions > Views.

2When the list of views or reports appears, use the right mouse button to click anywhere on the list, then choose "Import from File..." from the popup menu.

Note: It does not matter whether you click on a row or not, just click anywhere in the list.

3Click OK when prompted to confirm the import.
4When the "Select File" window opens, enter the name of the previously exported file you want to import, then click Open.
5A message will be displayed for you to confirm the import. If you want to continue, click OK.
6If the report or view being imported already exists, you will be prompted to overwrite the existing data.
7If the import is successful, the new report or view will appear in the list and will be immediately ready for use.
